Several years ago, along with cooking, I started photographing my food. At here is my story about the used gear for food photography as a beginner.
Canon 1200 D kit – (1200 D body along with the 18-55 lens).
At the begining, it was just me and my phone. But my husband had other plans. So, he bought me for my birthday my first DSLR camera, Canon 1200 D.
I remember my self not knowing how to handle the camera, but after practicing – a lot – I have managed to capture food in a decent way. My 1200 D camera was the perfect match for me since it is cheap (for a DSLR) and it is great for new photographers. The 1200D is a pleasure to handle and shoot with.
Even though, after spending some years with my 1200D, I can point out some cons (not enough AF points, poor AF performance in live view, the low screen resolution), I can also tell you that is a great camera for a beginner.
It’s easy to use and the images it produces are excellent. Also, the EOS Companion app does a great job of easing you into the experience. For a beginner, at that price, it’s hard to ask for more. You do not need more.

Want to know how I upgraded my gear for food photography as a beginner? Well, I took my food photography to the next level by purchasing new lens. If you love bokeh effect then you have to make this step.
If you are not a professional photographer and you don’t want to spend a lot the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM is the right option for you. It is worth to mention that mounted on the body of the Canon 1200 D (not a full frame body), a 50mm lens delivers an angle of view equivalent to an 80mm lens on a full frame body.
I am not going to talk with technical terms – I am not an expert. I will just share some photos taken with my 50mm lens. And I will let you decide.
